Uccelli catturati dalle lappe
Inviato: 19 feb 2013

Spencer Sealy and I are reviewing the records of birds entangled in burdock (Arctium spp). We have compiled over 200 instances of bird entanglement, but surprisingly few are from Europe where burdock is a native plant. Most records are from North America and a few specimens are held in museum collections here. For Europe, we have found published records of birds entangled in the UK (5 records published in British Birds), Germany (9 records mostly in German bird journals), and in Switzerland (1 record in Nos Oiseaux). However, we are not aware of any specimens in museum collections taken in Europe.
We would very much appreciate information on any burdock-entangled birds specimens (or lack thereof) in your collection or on any European-based entanglements reported in a publication of which you are aware.
Thank you for any information you may have to offer.
Regards,
Todd
